 Dental alginate is a dental impression material that is used to make a negative mold of your patient’s teeth and surrounding oral cavity.

Available in powdered form, alginate is mixed with water to form a gel solution that is placed in a dental tray to make dental impression molds.

When working with alginate impression material, it is important to understand the difference between Fast-Set and Regular-Set Alginate.

Fast-Set alginate will have a working time of 45 seconds and a setting time of 1-2 minutes, while Regular-Set alginate will allow for a working time of 75 seconds and a setting time of up to 4 minutes. However, the setting times may vary depending on the temperature of the water that is used to mix the alginate. The warmer the water, the faster the set time.
