The TCS230 is based on a 8 pin SOIC surface mount package, which integrates 64 photodiodes on a single chip. These diodes are divided into four types. Sixteen photodiodes have red filters, 16 photodiodes have green filters, 16 photodiodes have blue filters, and the remaining 16 do not have any filters to pass through all the optical information. These photodiodes are arranged crosswise in the chip, which can greatly reduce the inhomogeneity of incident light radiation, thereby increasing the accuracy of color recognition; on the other hand, 16 photodiodes of the same color are connected in parallel, evenly distributed in the diode array, which can eliminate the color position error. When working, two programmable pins are used to dynamically select the required filter. The typical output frequency range of the sensor is from 2 Hz to 500 kHz. The user can also select 100%, 20% or 2% output scaling factor or power off mode by two programmable pins. The output scale factor makes the output of the sensor adapt to different measuring range and improves its adaptability. For example, when a low-speed frequency counter is used, a small calibration value can be selected to match the output frequency of the TCS230 with the counter.
