Nutmeg is a spice that comes from the seed of the nutmeg tree, which is native to the Banda Islands in Indonesia. The nutmeg seed is oval-shaped, about an inch long, and has a brownish-red colour. It has a warm, sweet, and slightly spicy flavour that is often used in sweet and savoury dishes, as well as in beverages.
In India, nutmeg is primarily grown in the southern state of Kerala. It is also grown to a lesser extent in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Goa.
The variety of nutmeg grown in India is known as “Myristica Fragrans”, which is the same species of nutmeg that is grown in Indonesia and other parts of the world.
