Difference between hulled and unhulled Sesame Seeds

Hulled sesame seeds are those that have lost their hull or outer shell during the manufacturing or processing stage. Unhulled sesame seeds are those which have their shell/hull present even after the processing is complete. The hull gives the sesame a brilliant earthy brown colour tone.

The biggest difference between hulled and unhulled sesame seeds is the shell. Hulled seeds have had the hard outer shell removed, while unhulled seeds still have the shell intact. This can affect the texture of the seeds, as well as the flavor. Hulled sesame seeds are often used in baking, as they have a softer texture and milder flavor. Unhulled sesame seeds, on the other hand, have a crunchier texture and a stronger flavor. They are often used in Asian cuisine, where they are often used as a garnish or added to stir-fries. The nutritional value of hulled and unhulled sesame seeds is similar, although hulled seeds may have slightly more vitamins and minerals due to the removal of the outer shell. Hulled sesame seeds are a good source of fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc. Unhulled sesame seeds are also a good source of these nutrients, but they also contain more fat.

Hulled sesame seed have a milder flavor than unhulled sesame seeds and are often used in sweet dishes, while unhulled sesame seeds have a more pronounced flavor and are often used in savory dishes. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to which type of sesame seed to use, it simply depends on your preference.
