Products Description

Top-grade matcha green tea featuring a vivid color and deep flavor. This highly aromatic, top-quality Uji matcha green tea has a nice balance of sweetness and astringency along with an elegant, mellow taste. Matcha green tea powder is made from whole tea leaves, which means that it is essential to use reliable tea, such as certified organic tea leaves. Our matcha green tea powder is made from certified organic tea leaves harvested at a tea plantation located among the misty mountains of Ujitawara-cho, Kyoto. After the leaves are plucked at the tea plantation (the tea leaves are shaded with a covering to block out the sunlight, which concentrates the leaves' flavor components and improves their color and taste), they are slowly dried in a special steamer and then refined down into powdered tea. These tea leaves are used in Shiose's renowned confectioneries, and their quality has been guaranteed.

These tea leaves have been certified by JONA, an organic certification agency, and the leaves have a successful track record of being imported to the US and the EU. Certified organic by Organic JAS, NOP, and the EU. Applications are given out to each tea plantation to conduct a series of checks, such as asking if they have used pesticides, chemical fertilizers, etc., for three or more years, verifying their work logs for the land at each cultivation site, and checking the cultivation methods at neighboring farming sites. We have earned a certification by the Japan Organic and Natural Foods Association (commonly referred to as “JONA”), and each year inspectors are sent to check all records and conduct on-site inspections for each farming site, associated facilities, materials being used, installed equipment, daily work logs at farm sites, all unprocessed tea production records, product grade records, and so forth.

We have several repositories that correspond to tea grades. We can customize the design, amount of grams, and more, so please contact us to discuss further details. Changes to the design and/or shape require a separate fee.

Company Profile

Founded in 1349, Shiose is the oldest confectionery in Japan. We are one of the most traditional companies in Japan and a leading company that has shaped Japanese food culture. A descendant of the famous Chinese poet Lin Hejing, Shiose's first generation, Lin Jo-in, came to Japan from China in 1349. He was good at making steamed buns with meat, and created Japan's first sweet red bean paste and steamed buns with red bean paste for monks who could not eat meat. He settled in Nara and started a bun shop, and his buns became popular among the upper class and were later presented to the emperor, and spread throughout the country as the first Japanese confectionery. Since then, it has been loved by successive shoguns and received the title of "Japan's No. 1 Manju shop" from Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa and the family crest from Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado. In the Edo period (1603-1867), it was introduced in the guidebooks of the time as the best confectionery in Japan, and there are descriptions of people vying to buy it. Later, Shiose was the first confectioner to be appointed by the Ministry of the Imperial Household, and was often called upon by His Majesty to arrange festive banquets.

We are also well versed in the world of tea. Lin Soumi, a descendant of Lin Jo-in , studied tea under Sen no Rikyu, the most famous tea master in Japan, and took his granddaughter as his wife, who had a great influence on the tea ceremony.

Today, we are a food company using the material of Hokkaido, Japan, offering confections, teas, and healthy food products made from the finest Japanese ingredients. We, as the oldest food company in Japan, continue to challenge ourselves today to bring comfort to people's hearts through their eyes and tongue. We look forward to hearing from you.
