This highly aromatic seaweed called “hitoegusa” is farm-raised in Lake Hamana, which is situated in the western area of Shizuoka Prefecture. Lake Hamana is famous for its warm waters, and it is also home to farm-raised eel and more. It is a brackish lake where the nutrient-dense freshwater from the Miyakoda River system mixes together with the seawater that flows in from the Pacific Ocean. This product consists of seaweed, but the seaweed itself has not been cooked. As mentioned above, this seaweed is grown in a high-quality environment, which gives it a strong aroma, and it is great for when you want a taste of the ocean. You can enjoy it in a wide variety of ways without any limitations since it is uncooked. It is typically enjoyed as a soup ingredient, but you can also use it to make isobe-age, which is when you mix it with batter to make nori seaweed-wrapped deep-fried foods.
