Garlic varieties can be classified into 2 distinct types – namely ‘Hardneck’ and ‘Softneck’. The essential difference in the hardiness, ‘Hardneck’ varieties are very hardy whilst ‘Softneck’ varieties are less so. However this means the softneck varieties do actually store better. Hardneck varieties are closer to wild varieties, which is where they get their hardiness from.

Softneck varieties are often milder in flavour and easier to braid into bunches for storing.

Hardneck varieties have a more complex flavour and are more suited to cold climates. They also develop a ,Scape’ which is a long flowering stem. This is usually cut off as soon as you see it, as it does produce smaller bulbils which can reduce the energy the plant needs to produce the cloves. These scapes often start to curl as they grow, making them easy to identify and remove.

All varieties grow well in the UK but maybe look for the Hardneck varieties if you are in the far North’

The garlic must be shipped in reefer container.
If packing in 20kg/mesh bag,one 40ft reefer container can load 28-30 mts.
If packing in 10kg/carton,one 40ft reefer container can load 24-26 mts.
One 20ft one door open container can load 14–16mts.
