Product Overview

Description

The impregnated diamond core bit is the most commonly used type in the mineral exploration and the construction industry. The advantages of using impregnated diamond core bits over bits manufactured with other cutting media include:

- To drill a board range of geological formations from the softest to the hardest rock and from fractured, abrasive to consolidated formations.

- To be manufactured with very small, high quality synthetic diamonds mixed evenly through a metal matrix. Their multi-layered structure results in better overall bit life than other type bits of cutting media. They give an efficient and stable cutting action throughout the life of the bit.

- To be particularly well suited for drilling in hard, consolidated and non-abrasive formations.

The matrix layer of the bit crown contains a uniform distribution of synthetic diamond crystals that are embedded in the special made matrix. When matrix layer is eroded the new layers of sharp synthetic diamond will expose controlled until the matrix layer of the bit crown is totally consumed. The function of the impregnated diamond core bits, such as overall bit life and penetration rate are dependent on the grit size, concentration and grade of the synthetic diamond crystals are well as the relative hardness and property of the metal bond materials

OBI have developed a range of impregnated diamond matrices with matrix layer metal bonds that range form hard, abrasion resistant types to soft, ductile types. Individual matrix types are identified by number designations which are marked at the collar of the bits and also can be identified by the paint color inside of the bits. The relative hardness of the metal bond hardness decreases as the matrix number designations increase.

MATRIX TYPE O1-O3 (black, sky blue, gray) Very hard matrix. Abrasive resistant. They are recommended for use in softer and somewhat abrasive formations. Requires high torque and thrust.

MATRIX TYPE O4-O5 (blue, purple) Hard Matrix. Good performing matrix giving increased penetration rates in abrasive and medium fractured conditions

MATRIX TYPE O6-O9 (dark green, green, red, orange) Medium to soft matrix. General purpose matrix. Free cutting giving good penetration rate in low abrasive medium to fine grained conditions with hard and medium hard formations. The bits with the feature of broad-spectrum are mostly welcome by our customers.

MATRIX TYPE O10-O12 (silver, yellow, gold) Soft matrix. They are designed for use in hard rock drilling applications where formation conditions are generally consolidated and fine grained with compressive strengths which tend to polish matrix.
