Company Profile

ANTICHI PODERI JERZU
Antichi Poderi in Jerzu is an Italian cooperative with 430 wine grower members: a company model like few others that combines quality with the peculiar characteristics of its territory. In recent years, many efforts have been devoted to improve - day by day - what nature has given to its territory for thousands of years without forcing it. It was then possible to enhance the genius intuition of 45 members who created a cellar in 1950, which was in the heart of the oldest and most renowned farms in the area.
Today, Antichi poderi in Jerzu is synonymous with a range of products with a renewed image, in line with the tastes of the moment but without distorting its natural identity.

Territory

LAND OF MANY FLAVOUR
The farms, situated in the towns of Jerzu, Ulassai, Osini, Gairo, Cardedu and Tertenia, are located on gentle slopes that arrive to the sea from the Gennargentu mountains, on coasts famous for their white sand and colourful water. The climate condition of the vineyards brings forth grapes with ver y intense scents and great natural gradation. Jerzu is located in a corner far from the main communication links, which is why it hasn't been contaminated by the many cultures that took power over the years, leaving its extraordinar y authenticity. The beautiful and inaccessible view from the cellar, situated at more than 500 metres above sea level, in mirrored in the personality of the members: honest men and women who always put authenticity in front of profits.

Vineyards

Great wines need lands, climate and men. The position of the farms, located at different altitudes, gets the most out of the land and the climate: from Jerzu at 700 metres above sea level to Cardedu e Tertenia near the sea. The love for the land, the continuous improvement in looking after the vineyards and the constant professional growth of its members ensure a fantastic human contribution. In similar conditions, it's easy to create a division between real quality and temporary trends. The different location of the vineyards is an important aspect because the slopes make different types of production: downstream, there are young and intensive vineyards like Guyot, for example, a small tree with head fruit and maximum productions of 9,000 kilos; while upstream, the production is extensive with less return but great quality and often via the use of old tools such as a plough pulled by oxen.

Our Advantages

LOCAL IDENTITY
Among land, tradition and research…
We thought our wine-producing system as an integrated model which allows us to work out and confer a different role to all the
fundamental elements: soil, climate, environment, rural architecture and agronomic technology.
We put this concept about zone system on paper and we came out with a book:
“Le terre e le Vigne del Cannonau di Jerzu”.
