[Chinese name]zanghonghua

 

[English name] saffron

 

[used part]Dried stigma of Crocus sativus L. of the Iris family.

[Plant morphology]This product is linear, tribranched, ca. 3cm long. Dark red, wider and slightly flattened above, the apical margin showing irregular dentate, with a short fissure inside, sometimes with a small yellow style at the lower end. Light body, soft, no oil gloss, brittle and easy to break after drying. Gas specific, slightly irritating, taste slightly bitter.

 

[medicinal properties]Huoxue huayu, cool blood detoxification, jieyu tranquilizer. Used as a symptom of menstruation, postpartum stasis, tetchy blotches, depression, shock and delirium.

[Usage and Dosage] 1 ~ 3G, decocted or soaked in boiling water.
