Direct Reduced Iron
Sponge iron (DRI) is a valuable source of iron for the production of high-quality steel. With the Direct Reduction technology that has been developed considerably in recent years, sponge iron melting in electric arc furnaces has more qualitative advantages than scrap metal smelting for steel making.
The iron ore pellets are charged in a direct reduction unit in the furnace and regenerated from iron oxide in the form of iron oxide, which is called "sponge iron", by a reformed gas at a temperature of about 800 to 870 ° C.
