Description

Cumin belongs to the family umbelliferae. It is considered to be native to Mediterranean region. Cumin plants are delicate, much branched, slow growing herbaceous attaining an average height of 20-25 cm. It is an important spice mainly cultivated for flavouring in vegetables, pickles, soups and for pleasant aroma which is due to cuminaldehyde, a component of volatile oil, present in the seeds. The seeds are yellowish brown 4-6 mm long.

Application / Models

Oil and oleoresin of cumin seed are used in seasoning for snacks, soups, stews, cheese, pickles and meat products. Another major use is in curry mixes. Oil of cumin also finds application in perfumery and pharmaceutical preparations
