Evaluation
Compared to ordinary black charcoal, this charcoal is more flammable and less likely to explode.
It is highly appreciated by both individual users and stores that handle charcoal.

Reasons for its high quality
1. Uses Iwate kiln
The Iwate kiln is designed to maintain a uniform temperature inside the kiln, resulting in the production of high-quality, stable charcoal.

2. The process of making charcoal takes a long time.
The charcoal making process takes one month to complete, which results in high carbon content, hard and high quality charcoal.

3.The charcoal is cut to uniform size and carefully packaged.
The charcoal is cut into 6cm pieces and the diameter is as close as possible to the same size, making it easy to adjust the heat.
It is then carefully packaged by hand with no gaps.

4.The Iwate charcoal is inspected for quality by the charcoal association.
Charcoal Association staff members visit the factory to provide guidance on production techniques and inspect the quality of the charcoal.
The degree of refinement of all products produced is measured to confirm quality.

Japan Geographical Indication (GI) Preservation System

What is the Geographical Indication Preservation Systems?
The Geographical Indication (GI) protects the name and the qualities linked to the production origins of food products and agricultural, forestry, and fishery products, as well as the traditional methods used to produce them, by registering them nationally as intellectual properties.

1: productions that only passed the qualification inspection will be give a GI brand
Only high-quality productions that met the standards of the GI Preservation System are branded the IWATE CHARCOAL name

2: The quality of the charcoal is refined within 8 levels.
By keeping the refinement level to a constant 8 level or below, the charcoal surface's electrical resistivity can be controlled, indicating minimal impurities and a high carbon content. This creates a high quality material that can be widely used commercially or for personal use.

3: The quality is further finished by cutting off the lower parts of the logs that weren't carbonized.
During the carbonization process, the logs are placed and heated vertically within the kiln.
This method prevents a full carbonization since the bottom part of the logs that touch the ground dose not heat up as the other areas.
Therefore, the bottom part is cut off for an easier selection process to maintain a premium quality.

4: All products are carefully inspected by the Iwate Prefecture Charcoal Association.
The charcoals are individually inspected to ensure the best and highest-grade production of materials.
