Dicyandiamide (DICY) is produced from the polymerization of cyanamide in the presence of a base. It is typically pure white crystals, stable when dry and soluble in liquid ammonia. It is partly soluble in hot water. Dicyandiamide is non-flammable.
Dicyandiamide is often used as a curing agent for epoxies and as a used as a stabilizer compound for PVC flooring.
Another popular use of Dycyandiamide (DICY) is a flame retardant additive in the paper and textile industries.
Dicyandiamide can be used as a slow release fertilizer. Dycandiamide also finds applications in the adhesive industry, powder coatings, dielectric coatings, water treatment chemicals, rubber, dye fixing, and pharmaceutical applications.

Uses:
1. As the raw material of guanidine salt and melamine dicyandiamine, react with acid to produce various guanidine salts. The benzo-substituted melamine diamine obtained by the reaction of dicyandiamide and benzonitrile is an intermediate for coatings, laminates and molding powders.
2. Dicyandiamide resin prepared by the reaction of dicyandiamide and formaldehyde as a dye fixing agent can be used as a dye fixing agent.
3. Dicyandiamide compound fertilizer Dicyandiamide compound fertilizer can control the activity of nitrifying bacteria, adjust the transformation speed of nitrogen fertilizer in the soil, reduce the loss of nitrogen and improve the efficiency of fertilizer use.
4. As a fine chemical intermediate, it is used in medicine to prepare guanidine nitrate, sulfonamides, etc.; it is also used to prepare thiourea, nitrocellulose stabilizer, rubber vulcanization accelerator, steel surface hardener, artificial leather filler,adhesive mixture, etc. The pharmaceutical intermediate 5-azacytosine can be obtained by the reaction of dicyandiamide and formic acid.
