Climate and soil requirements for passion fruit cultivation:
Basically, Passion Fruit can be grown in all areas in Vietnam. However, in order to harvest more fruits with high productivity. The ecological conditions of passion fruit are as below:
* Growing area: purple passion fruits are suitable for sub-tropical areas. The average elevation is about 1000m – 2000m above sea level. Therefore, the purple passion fruit are commonly grown in Central Highlands.
* Soil: passion fruit trees are not soil choosy, but it is more suitable for soft composition, well-draining, flat land, warm and wet soil with the farming floor deep over 50m, humus above 2%, the pH maintained from 5.5 to 6.
* Temperature: suitable from 20oC – 25o the growing area does not have frost (the Northern Highlands are cold and frosty, so it is hard to grow passion fruit tree here). The plant will die if the temperature is under 10oC
* Light: suitable for soft light
* Rainfall: the average rainfall required about 1,600mm/year, evenly distributed. The fruiting stage requires more water. If there is lacking of water, the passion fruit trees will be atrophied, rough, unsightly, and fall.
