Cast wheel VS Forged wheel
If you want to know the advantages of forged wheels compared to cast wheels, it is necessary to understand how the two kinds of wheels are produced.
The casting process is divided into gravity casting and low-pressure casting. The manufacturing process of gravity casting is simple, that is, pour the liquid alloy into the casting mold to cool and form, and because the casting mold is durable and the process is simple, it is the lowest cost manufacturing method; low-pressure casting is a low-pressure casting method. The liquid alloy is pressed into the casting mold, so that the molecular distribution is even, the pores are less, the metal density is high,so the strength is stronger, and the safety factor is higher than the former, but the smelting process during casting will cause the metal to have the disadvantage of as-cast looseness. But because the production process is simple and the cost is low, the price will be relatively cheap.
The process method of forging the wheel hub is to use high pressure (most of them are several thousand tons of pressure) to press a piece of heated alloy into the rough embryo of the wheel hub, and then use CNC detail carving for secondary processing.The molecules between them will be smaller, the gaps will be finer, the density will be higher, and the interaction force between the material molecules will be stronger, so the hub can achieve sufficient rigidity with less material, making the overall weight lighter. Due to factors such as the high cost of high-pressure presses, the price of forged wheels is high.
