Our crystallized pet litters are the mixture of white and blue silica gel which has the low bulk density of less than 500 gm/m3 which can absorb 100% litter of its weight. This gel is absorbent and also provides odor control. The silica gel used in these products is similar to the desiccant that is often found in the pouches packaged as a preservative with foods, medications, and other consumables that can be damaged by excess moisture. Silica-based litters provide an option for those who prefer a non-clay litter. They tend to produce less dust than clay litters.
Silica gel litter is a highly active adsorbent material, usually prepared by reacting sodium silicate and sulfuric acid, and undergoing a series of post-treatment processes such as aging and acid foaming. Silica gel is an amorphous substance,insoluble in water and any solvent, non-toxic and tasteless, chemically stable, and does not react with any substance except strong alkali and hydrofluoric acid.
