Application Theory

 

 

When a household gas lighter is actuated, great mechanical pressure is applied to the end faces of a piezo pre-stressed ceramic cylinder fitted in this mechanism.

 

The pressure load generates values of several thousand volts at the cylinder electrodes.

 

This high voltage generates one or several sparks in the spark gap of the lighter which are able to ignite an air-gas mixture.

 

This principle can be used for igniting all technically important combustible gases.
