Often though, ice or gel is too cold to be the best method for treating pain from soft tissue injuries. In this case the proper solution is organic PCM, cold but not freezing cold. While ice gel is good for the first 15 minutes, over a long period of time we don't want to apply gel, we want to apply cold that is not at freezing 0 C. you want cold, lots of cold, but not so cold that is at or below 0C freezing point of water and body tissue. Ice gel can freeze the skincausing‘cold burns'.
