Zircon chemical formula: ZrSiO4, also known as zircon, zircon sand. It is a mineral consisting mainly of zirconium, silicon, and oxygen that is crystallized from the magma at the time of the formation of igneous rocks. It is a high quality refractory. The theoretical composition of zircon sand is: ZrO2:67.1%; SiO2:32.9%. Zircon sand is pure colorless and transparent crystal, often because of quantity and species of different origin and different impurities dyed yellow, orange, red and brown color, Mo type hardness of 7.8, the proportion of the refractive index of 1.93-2.01, 4.6-4.71g/cm fand, melting point of 2550 DEG C or above.

 

Pure zircon sands usually appear as colorless and transparent tetrahedral prismcrystals, because of different origins, the types and quantities of impurities. It is often dyed into yellow, orange, red, brown and other colors.

It usually has a mineral paragenesis with ilmenite, rutile, monazite, xenotime in beach placer, which can be obtained through the water gravity selection, electric separation, magnetic separation and other mineral processing methods, the theoretical components are ZrO2 and SiO2, and small amount of Fe2O3, CaO, Al2O3 and other impurities. In theory, pure zicon sands contains 67.23% and 32.77% SiO2.

Application:

Zircon sand used for refractory material (zirconium refractory material, such as corundum brick, zirconium refractory fiber), sand mold casting industry (precision casting sand), precision enamelware, also used in glass, metal (sponge zirconium and zirconium compounds (two) zirconium oxide, zirconium oxychloride, zirconate sodium, potassium zirconium fluoride, etc.) in the production of zirconium sulfate.
