The catalyst of MWC methanol cracking to produce hydrogen is a kind of copper as active component.A new catalyst composed of oxides of copper, zinc, aluminum, etc. It has high activity and good selectivity to methanol steam conversion to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

Catalytic activity

 2. Catalyst packaging and storage


The catalyst was packaged in a plastic bag and then put into an iron bucket.Indoor storage, strictly protect against damp, earthquake and toxic pollution. Do not roll on the ground during handling. Do not fall from more than 0.5 meters, or hit.


Under normal conditions, the catalyst can be stored for more than a year, the physical properties and activity of the catalyst will not be affected.


3. Catalyst heating, reduction and passivation


The MWC-612 catalyst is composed of oxides of copper, zinc and aluminum.Restore before use.


Restoring conditions:


    Reduction pressure: Normal pressure


    Reduction airspeed: 500-1000h-1  


    Reducing gas: containing H2   0.5 ~ 10% nitrogen (or desulfurized natural gas)


Reduction gas quality: O2    < 0.1%


                 H 2O < 0.2%


                 S < 0.1 PPM


                Chloride < 0.1 PPM

3. The temperaturereduction procedure


The catalyst shall be reduced by heating before use. At different temperature segments, the heating rate was respectively 15 ° C /h, 10 ° C /h and 5 ° C /h. During the heating process, the hydrogen content in reducing gas was increased by stages (0.5 ~ 20%).


4. Get ready for driving


After reduction, stop adding hydrogen and reduce the reduction gas to 80% of the original flow.Prepare for normal start - up feeding. It is recommended that the feeding amount be 30 ~ 80% of normal operation.


5. Catalyst passivation


The catalyst must be passivated when it is discharged.


Passivation conditions:


Passivation gas: industrial pure nitrogen with an oxygen content of 0.1 ~ 5% (meter air).


Passivation airspeed: 300-1000h-1  


Passivation pressure: normal pressure


After passivation, the catalyst can be removed.


Iv. Matters needing Attention


The reduction of the catalyst is a very important step, must be handled carefully.To ensure that the catalyst fully reduced, do not act in haste.


(2) After reduction, when preparing for normal feeding, to avoid the reactor temperature drop more than 10℃.


The MWC-612 catalyst can be operated at 260 ~ 280℃.The catalyst can maintain a low operating temperature in the early stage, and the operating temperature can be increased in the later stage to give full play to the maximum capacity of the catalyst, with the maximum temperature not exceeding 300℃.


(4) The disadvantage of copper catalyst is poor heat resistance, so whether the reduction of temperature or in the reaction operation to avoid the catalyst quench quenching heat. Otherwise, the change of copper grain will affect the activity and life of the catalyst.
