The recombinant mussel foot protein (rMfp) is innately biodegradable and has wet adhesive properties. Unlike commercial chemical-based glues, rMfp is functional under saline and hydrated environment, a condition similar to wound sections. The rMfp hydrogel is able to stop blood loss without causing inflammation and is degradable under in vitro tests.
