Centrifugal sand separator
Introduction
A centrifugal sand separator, often used for pre-filtration, removes larger particles of sand. Water entering the separator is forced into a spiral flow pattern, developing centrifugal forces that cause the sand particles to move to the outer edge of the separator. These particles then settle out of the water into a collection chamber at the bottom. Clean water flows out of the separator at the vortex of the rotation, along the separator’s axis.

A sand separator is effective in removing as much as 98 percent of particles that are too large to fit through an equivalent 200-mesh filter. The device does not remove organic material.
A sand separator should be used as the initial filter on any irrigation system that is pumping appreciable quantities of sand, and should be followed by another type of secondary filter to take out the finer particles.

Working principle
Cyclone sand filter is designed and manufactured on the screening principle that solid particles in the fluid swirling and flowing in the sand filter. It is a new separation device which combines filtering device, when the water flow is under certain pressure, it flows from the inlet tangentially enters the sand filter, and generates violent whirlpool, since the sand and water is different in density, under the comprehensive action of centrifugal force, centripetal force and fluid drag force, the low density water rises and discharged from the water outlet, high density sand discharges from the sewage outlet at bottom of the device. Individual particles joint floating along the water flow will be filtrated by the second stage filtering device, so as to realize the purpose of sand removal.

Application field
1. Mainly applied to water quality treatment and control for the raw water and water supplying, such as: River water, well water desanding, coal washing water, mineral separation, solid-liquid separation, gas and liquid immiscible liquid separation.
2. It can be widely applied to the water source heating pump system, a heating water, central air conditioning cooling water, chilled water, steel, power, chemical and other industrial and mining enterprises, tap water, sea water, surface water, ground water.

Operation:
Water enters the hydrocyclone via the tangential inlet which creates a spiral flow along the walls of the filter. The centrifugal force separates the waste and sand particles and pushes them towards the walls of the sand separator. Those particles gravitate downwards and into the sedimentation tank, while clean water moves upwards and exits through the top outlet.
For the sand separator to operate correctly, the lead loss must remain between 2-5m. The separation efficiency is not affected by the accumulation of dirt in the sedimentation tank. The sedimentation tank is drained by opening a flush valve for a few seconds manually or automatically by timer.
