The herb contains bitterness, saponins of the triterpene group, organic acids (carbolic and phenolcarboxylic), pectin and tannins, phytosterols, lipids (about 4.7%). Alfalfa flowers synthesize anthocyanins, cyanidin and its leucobase (leucocyanidin).
Alfalfa grass is rich in vitamins (vitamin A, carotenoids, Tocopherols [e vitamins], vitamins K, D, B1, B2, B12). No less interesting is the mineral composition of the grass - here calcium, silicon, phosphorus, magnesium, fluorine, iron.
