GENERAL CONCEPT OF CASTING
The concept of casting the production process
Casting ingot manufacturing method by means of molten metal, pouring liquid metal into molds heart shapes and sizes of castings, after solidification of metal molds for obtaining castings shaped like as heart molds.
Casting can bring immediate use called castings. If castings need through mechanical processing to improve the accuracy of the size and surface gloss is called billet casting
Advantages and disadvantages of the casting process:
- Casting casting can be different types of material, usually iron, steel, nonferrous metals and alloys with volume from a few grams to hundreds of tons.
- Production of castings is the shape, the texture is very complex as the tool body, engine cover that other manufacturing methods have difficulty or can not be manufactured.
- Accuracy of shape, size and low gloss. However with special molding method, the accuracy can reach 1.25mm approximately 0,001mm and smoothness.
- Can be many different metal casting in a casting.
- Ability to mechanization and automation.
- Cost of castings manufactured cheap, flexible nature of production, high yield.
b. Disadvantages
- Cost metal pouring system.
- There are many defects (gaps, porosity) as high failure rates.
- Check defects inside castings requires modern equipment.
