Wood based activated carbonrefers to wood that is activated with chemicals or steam in order to form a porous microstructure capable of adsorbing water contaminants. It has the advantages of large surface area, fine micropores, high adherence strength and fast filtration speed. Some common chemicals used to activate wood are phosphorous acid and zinc chloride.
The production method of wood activated carbon is divided into two methods: phosphoric acid production and zinc chloride production.
The wood activated carbon produced by the phosphoric acid method has a developed mesoporous structure and a developed specific surface area, and has large adsorption capacity, high filtration speed, and no zinc salt.
The wood activated carbon produced by the zinc chloride method has a developed mesoporous structure, large adsorption capacity, and rapid filtration.
The main states of woodactivated carbon are granular, powder and columnar.
