Applications
Acrylic acid, also known as acrylic acid, is an organic compound with chemical formula C3H4O2. It is the simplest unsaturated carboxylic acid, consisting of a vinyl group and a carboxylic group. Pure acrylic acid is a colorless clear liquid with a characteristic pungent odor. It is soluble with water, alcohols, ethers and chloroform and is prepared from propylene obtained from oil refineries. Acrylic acid can react with carboxylic acid, and the corresponding esters can be obtained by reaction with alcohol. The most common acrylates include methyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate. When acrylic acid and its esters are mixed with other monomers, polymerization reaction will take place to form homopolymer or copolymer. Monomers commonly copolymerized with acrylic acid include amides, acrylonitrile, vinyl groups, styrene, butadiene, etc. This kind of polymer can be used to produce all kinds of plastics, coatings, adhesives, elastomers, floor polish agents and coatings.
