Nattokinase is an enzyme obtained by the extraction of fermented soybeans and possesses strong fibrinolytic properties. It is often confused with natto, however natto refers to the whole food, whereas nattokinase is the enzyme contained in natto. During manufacturing, the starting materials are soybean powder, water, and dextrose monohydrate, combined with the so-called bacteria, Bacillus subtilis subsp. natto for fermentation.
