Company Profile

Castello delle Regine encompasses over 1,100 acres of which some 400 acres are dedicated to vineyards.
The property includes more than 7,000 olive trees of which 60% are over 500 years old.
It also includes a prize herd of Chianina DOP breed cattle and a superb House & Country Residence with a first class restaurant.
For over 20 years owner Paolo Nodari has been making substantial investments in the vineyards and the cellar. He maintained clones
of Sangiovese Grosso and Merlot from the old vineyards while bringing into cultivation many additional acres.
The winery adopts modern winemaking technology while keeping a solid connection with the terroir. Vineyards are managed with a
great respect for the environment.
Vineyards spread over rolling hills in southern Umbria, surrounding the 16th century fortification Castello Amerino, now home of
Castello delle Regine winery.
Since over 500 years they were growing grapes mostly of Sangiovese, the traditional varietal and at that time also were planted
the olive trees still in production. In mid 19th century they started planting Merlot, due to the combination of clay and sand
that makes a perfect land for this varietal

Today we still grow mainly Sangiovese and Sangiovese Grosso, 40% , Merlot from old clones, 30%, Montepulciano, Syraz and Cabernet
Sauvignon.
10 ha are growing white grapes varietal as Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon, and the traditional varietal Trebbiano. The vineyard’s
philosophy is “the best wine from the best land”. We grow our vineyards knowing that we own land for a little portion of eternity,
so we need to respect it and preserve it for future generations.
Every stage of the wine making process from grape growing to winemaking employs the most natural techniques. Harvesting is hand
done, with careful selection of grapes.
Wines are classic and elegant with good complexity.
