Sodium bicarbonate is basically a chemical compound, which is also often known as baking soda, bread soda, cooking soda and bicarbonate of soda. We also nicknamed sodium bicarbonate as sodium bicarb, bicarb soda. Sometimes it is also simply known as bi-carb. The Latin name for sodium bicarbonate is Saleratus, which means, 'aerated salt'. Sodium bicarbonate is a component of the mineral Natron, also known as Nahcolite which is usually found in mineral springs, the only natural source of sodium bicarbonate. Sodium Bicarbonate functions as a buffer, an acid neutralizer, a source of carbon dioxide, and a mild abrasive. It is an excellent odor absorber and it provides carbonate alkalinity. These useful functions make sodium bicarbonate an essential ingredient in pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter preparations, health and beauty aids, foods, water treatment and industrial applications from foam blowing to surface preparation.

Applications
Food and Cooking uses: Food grade Sodium Bicarbonate with unmatched whiteness and superior impurity profile, is used as a raising agent in biscuits, cookies, bread, cakes, farsan, jaggery & confectionery. It acts like a buffer and carbonation agent in beverages, electrolyte and rehydration solutions. “baking soda” is primarily used in cooking as a leavening agent, such as for fried foods to enhance crispness. Sometimes used in cooking vegetables to make them softer, and also used in tenderise meats.
