What is the Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP)?
A kind of sodium metaphosphate polymer, it is transparent glass flake or white powdery crystal. It has strong hygroscopicity; it becomes sticky after absorbing moisture, it is easy to be humid in the air, and it is easily soluble in water. The solubility in water is greater, but the dissolution rate is slow; the aqueous solution is acidic. Easy to hydrolyze or become phosphite. It has the ability to form or dissolve complexes for some metal ions (calcium, magnesium), so it can be used to soften water, and it can also form complexes with lead, silver, and barium salts.
Usage
Uses: Used as a high-efficiency water softener for cooling water treatment in power stations, rolling stock, boilers and fertilizer plants, detergent additives, control or anti-corrosion agents, cement hardening accelerators, streptomycin purifying agents, fiber industry, bleaching and dyeing Industrial cleaning agent. Used as a flotation agent in the beneficiation industry. It is used in medicine to prevent rust of drilling pipes and to control the viscosity of swelling slurry during oil drilling. It is also used in textile printing and dyeing, leather tanning, papermaking, color film, soil analysis, radiochemistry, analytical chemistry and other departments.
