Samarium chloride Properties and application:

Appearance: yellow granular or lump crystal, soluble in water and ethanol, deliquescence, sealed storage.
Samarium (III) chloride (SmCl3) is a compound of rare earth metals samarium and chlorine. It is a white to yellow powder. If it is exposed to moist air, it rapidly absorbs water molecules to form hexahydrate. Simply heating the samarium chloride hydrate may result in the hydrolysis of a small part of the product. You lose five water molecules at 110 degrees Celsius. Samarium chloride is a strong Lewisic acid and is classified as a "hard acid" according to the hard and soft acid-base theory.

Samarium chloride Application:

Used for gadolinium compound intermediates, chemical reagents and other industries.
Samarium (III) chloride can be used to make samarium metal, which has a variety of uses, mainly in magnets. Anhydrous samarium (III) chloride is a flux of sodium chloride and calcium chloride. Anhydrous samarium chloride can also be used to prepare some organometallic compounds of samarium.
