A: Cutting

The fresh and unweathered rock samples collected in the field were first selected, and then the diamond saw blades were cut to the proper size of the glass slides. Since diamonds are by far the hardest material, the laboratory saw blades and grinding plates are coated with diamonds in order to cut rock samples of varying hardness.

After the glue is hardened, the specimen is cut and ground into 100 ~ 150μm thickness by Petro-thin machine. Because the machine is too fast, it can not be ground into thin specimen.

E: Grinding

A micrometer was used to determine the thickness of the specimen. The specimen of 100 ~ 150μm thickness was fixed on the vacuum chuck by vacuum principle, and then ground directly on the Lapping plate to the standard thickness of 30μm.
