There are so many microneedling rollers out there, some good, some not-so-good. The quality depends on a variety of things that you should be considering before buying one. We have put up some of our suggestions for picking out a safe, quality microneedling roller.

Dermarollers are all the rage right now! But as it involves pricking your skin with needles, some people might have a hard time deciding whether or not they should try this treatment or not. So, is it worth it? I will say, Yes. Most doctors and celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Angelina Jolie love micro-needling, it has fast become a favorite treatment that produces the best results and has little downtime. Initially, microneedling was pricey. Only experts performed these procedures. But nowadays, at-home microneedling is on-trend. But to get effective results, it must be done correctly. And to do so you must have the right tool according to your skin condition and your desired results.

Length Of The Micro-needle:
The most important step towards having a safe and effective micro-needling procedure at home is selecting the appropriate needle length. We recommend starting out with shorter needle lengths for at-home micro-needling. Using longer needles means more risk of scarring or infection and more pain of course.

So does it mean that by using smaller needles you would get less visible results? Well, the researches say the formation of collagen was not dependent on the length of the needle. However, it is important to do regular micro-needling. So, think small, when it comes to at-home micro-needle length.

The Material Of The Needle:
After choosing the needle length, the next step is to determine the needle material you want to use. Two types of dermaroller materials are there. One is stainless steel, and the other is titanium. But we recommend medical-grade stainless steel to be used by first users. As it is the material that is used in needles at hospitals. Stainless steel has natural antimicrobial properties that help to fight off the infection and reduce the risk of infection.

There are many companies that sell dermarollers made from different materials. They don’t mention the material from which the needles are made from. Don’t buy such products. As for the titanium needles, they are not having as much antimicrobial properties as the stainless steel one. So, you need to do more disinfection of the dermaroller after and before using it. The common disinfection solution used is 70% isopropyl alcohol.

One more thing to remember is that the needles (regardless of the material they are made from) will dull over time. So, the microneedling rollers should be replaced every few months. Dull needles don’t produce effective results and the needles must be sharp enough to produce the best results.

Replacing your roller will also help avoid contamination, and ensure proper sanitization.

Number Of Needles:
Most of the microneedling rollers have less than 200 microneedles. It provides less coverage and requires more rolling-which ultimately leads to a more painful experience. It is recommended to choose a dermaroller having at least 540 needles.

Thickness Of the Needles:
Dermarollers with thick needles are intended for treating the less sensitive areas of the body like the legs, arms, and back, etc. They should not be used on the face. Because it will result in scarring and more pain. On the face, fine needles should be used.

The Area You Want To Treat:
Now, there are specialized dermarollers for different areas of the body. Like the normal microneedling roller cannot be used on the areas around the eye.
