Product Overview

Description

Coal base granular activated carbon

Activated carbon has been used for water purification since at least 1500 BC, when it was used to cleanse drinking water in India. Today, it is used at both the municipal and home levels to purify drinking water. It is also used to treat effluent water from industrial processing. In both cases, the goal is to remove both noxious and toxic compounds that affect both the safety and aesthetics of the treated water.

Product Detials

Activated carbon is a unique, highly porous material that attracts and binds a staggering array of chemical compounds. It is made from organic matter, such as wood, peat, or coal, that contains a high concentration of carbon. The material is heated slowly to dry it without burning, creating a product known as char. The char is then activated through a series of chemical and physical processes that increase its surface area and create a network of submicroscopic pores.

Activated carbon works through a process known as physical adsorption. Carbon’s surface molecules seek out other molecules to which they can bond. The targeted material creates a sort of film along the porous surface area of the activated carbon. It can bind with not only solids and liquids, but also some gases.

Production Process

Ordinary charcoal is produced from wood at high temperatures (charcoal, coal). Activated carbon is a carbonaceous material (such as wood, nut core, coal, petroleum asphalt, petroleum coke, fiber), which is crushed, screened, and placed in a carbonization activation furnace for high-temperature vacuum catalysis or chemical catalysis. A large number of small holes which are collided with each other are formed on the surface of the carbon to form a honeycomb structure which is criss-crossed, and then washed by acid (or alkali), washed with water, and dried.

Application

Process Water and Waste Water Applications

Process water is water that is used as part of industrial processing, while waste water is the end result or byproduct of industrial work. Process water includes both water that will ultimately be consumed, such as that added to juice drinks, and water that is ultimately discarded or recycled, such as wash water. Because the water usage goals and the chemical compounds vary wildly, activated carbon is available in a wide range of forms, sizes, and impregnations to meet different process water needs.

Municipal Drinking Water

The world’s drinking water supply comes from aquifers, lakes, rivers, and, increasingly, the ocean. Activated carbon is one of the best and most common treatment options for freshwater municipal supplies. For saltwater, filter anthracite is an excellent desalination resource. While most municipal drinking water treatment relies on large, heavy, fixed equipment, small mobile units are also available. These are saving lives in developing countries where access to safe water is limited.
