What is on board charger

OBC charger also called on board charger ,widely use for new energy /electric vehicle,RV,HEV,EV electric conversion projects, is mainly composed of power circuit (rectifier + PFC + phase shift full bridge ) and control circuit, as a key component of automotive power electronics, the main function is AC /DC converter. The on-board charger takes the AC power supply as the input and the output is DC to charge the power battery directly.

Key function : to convert AC power from the grid to DC power stored in the high-voltage vehicle battery /could save time get a full charged car more easily

Troubleshooting


If the charger appears to stop charging prematurely, we recommend connecting to the BMS unit, using the BMS utility and monitoring the charge current limit (CCL) to determine if the BMS is restricting the current. 
If the CCL is zero, the BMS is turning the charger off for one reason or another. 
If the CCL is not zero, the charger may be defective or there may be a wiring problem.

6.What's difference of on board charger and off board charger?
1. Different power supply methods:
1. The on-board charger is a charger that is fixedly installed on the electric vehicle.
is connected to the AC socket through a plug and cable, so it can also be called an AC charger.
The advantage of the on-board charger is that when the battery needs to be charged, Charging is possible as long as there is an available power outlet.
2. The off-board charger is fixedly installed outside the electric vehicle and connected to the AC power grid to provide DC power for the rechargeable energy storage system such as the power battery of the electric vehicle.
Second, the components are different:
1. As a power electronic system, the on-board charger is mainly composed of a power circuit and a control circuit. is composed of AC rectifier, transformer and power tube, and the DC/DC converter is an important part of it. The control circuit realizes serial communication with the power management, and controls the power drive circuit to output a certain voltage and current according to requirements.
2.The off-board charger consists of a power unit, a control unit, a metering unit, a charging interface, a power supply interface, and a human-computer interface. The output voltage of the off-board charger is divided into five levels according to the voltage level of the power battery system.
