DESCRIPTION
Extreme Inertness in Harsh Environments
Solef® PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) is a highly non-reactive thermoplastic fluoropolymer that is inherently flame retardant. It has a high degree of purity, robust mechanical properties, electrochemical stability, and broad chemical resistance at high temperatures. Protective coatings made using Solef PVDF offer improved weathering properties and excellent resistance to UV, radiation and aging. Approved grades for food contact are available.

Why Solef® PVDF?
* Industry standard in product quality and consistency

* Only producer with both suspension and emulsion processing

* Homopolymers and copolymers in powders, pellets and latex emulsions
* Manufacturing sites in North America, Europe and Asia
* Tailored performance via agile manufacturing
Suspension and Emulsion Polymerization
PVDF homopolymers are industrially manufactured using two commonly used polymerization processes – suspension and emulsion. Both technologies are water-based. Solvay is the only PVDF producer to use both polymerization processes.
Suspension PVDF particles are much bigger, and they settle down when mixing is stopped. Because the polymers are more crystalline, they offer higher mechanical properties and higher melting points. Plus, they can be injection molded.
Emulsion PVDF particles are physically stable, even in the absence of mixing, and they remain evenly dispersed in water. Smaller particle size promotes faster powder dispersion in solution processing, a higher degree of branching, and smaller crystallites that enhance film clarity.
Solef® 6008 PVDF homopolymer is a low-viscosity PVDF resin and is typically processed by injection molding.
