The IMX990 is capable of capturing images in the visible and invisible light spectrum in the short-wavelength infrared range. The compact 1/2″ optical format of this 1.3MPix imager is made possible by its 5μm pixel size, as compared to most SWIR imagers that have much larger pixels.
These image sensors operate in Global Shutter mode, which means that all pixels begin and end exposure simultaneously. This is particularly useful in imaging conditions in which the field of view changes rapidly, either due to fast motion or due to rapid changes in light intensity.

Can SWIR see in dark?
Our SWIR sensors are extremely sensitive, literally counting individual photons. Therefore, when built as sensor pixels, or focal plane arrays including thousands or millions of tiny point sensors, SWIR cameras can work in the darkest conditions.
Can SWIR see through fog?
Yes, as you can see the pictures through fog and haze in the examples. This is especially important in both port and harbor security scenarios where fog and haze are a regular occurrence.
