While there are several differences between our 4 StreetStrider models, the biggest difference between the 3i, 7i, and 8s models are the range of gears and the frames.
Gears. On our 3i, you will be able to cruise at 15-20 mph in gear 3 and climb moderate hills in gear 1. On our 7i, you will be
able to achieve a much wider range of workout intensities in gears 6 and 7 and climb steep hills in gears 1 and 2. With the 8s you can cruise at 15-20 mph in gears 6 – 8 and climb steep hills in gears 1 and 2. With the 8s, each gear shift changes the ratio by about 17%, so with 8 gears, you can find the perfect resistance level for your stride.
Frames. The 3i and 7i frames are built with high tensile steel, supporting riders up to 300 lbs. The 8s is built with our 4th
generation aluminum alloy frame that weighs only 20 lbs and supports riders up to 300 lbs. All models now feature our new quick-release crank arm for easy transportation and storage, and the 8s model features a new user-adjustable caster angle, providing the option for more upright stability for beginners or more leaning performance for experienced riders.
Q2: Can you climb hills?
Yes you can! Hill climbing ability depends on gear choice and rider conditioning. Also, the foot platforms on all StreetStriders are designed with a rear tilt that lets you push backward on the foot platforms while you lean forward to climb hills, giving you more hill climbing power.
The 3i has 3 gears and the 7i has 7 gears. The ratios of gears 1, 2 and 3 of the 3i are the same as the ratios of 3, 5, and 7 of the 7i. With the 3i, moderate hils are climbed. Gears 1 and 2 of the 7 speed are for climbing even steeper hills.
Q3: What is the cruising speed and max speed?
StreetStriding speed depends on how fast the user can rotate the foot platforms, their cadence. StreetStrider models have gear ratios that give the user very similar speeds in the highest gears. For comparison purposes, if the user is striding at a cadence of 60 rpm, on the 3i in 3rd gear or the 7i in 7th gear, they will be traveling at about 20 mph. Of course, as the cadence and or selected gear is changed so will the striding speed.
Q4: Can I use the StreetStrider indoors?
Yes! All StreetStrider models can be used inside with the Indoor Trainer, making the StreetStrider the world’s first 2-in-1
outdoor/indoor elliptical machine. The Indoor Trainer includes the Universal Trainer Stand, Variable Resistance Roller, Front Wheel Riser Blocks. The Indoor Trainer allows you to transform your StreetStrider into an indoor elliptical machine in just seconds. With variable resistance levels, you can find the perfect setting for an intense indoor elliptical experience any time you want, rain or shine.
