Back Pack Spray

Due to the inaccessibility of many area's where we need to fight fires and the fact that water remains the most effective way to fight a veld fire, back pack spray's are an essential part of our fire fighting equipment. These units carry about 20 liters of water. It is particularly useful to cool down the flames for the beaters or during mopping up and spot fires to quickly sort out problem area's.

Drip Torch

A drip torch is a tool used in wild land fire fighting, controlled burning, and other forestry applications to intentionally ignite fires. The drip torch consists of a canister that holds fuel with a handle attached to the side, a spout with a loop (pigtail) to prevent fire from entering the fuel canister, a breather valve to allow air into the canister while fuel is exiting through the spout, and a wick from which flaming fuel is dropped to the ground. The wick is ignited and allows the fire to be directed as needed. The typical fuel used is a mixture of petrol and diesel. In plantations and environmental management, the drip torch is the most common tool used to ignite prescribed burns, which are used to remove excess fuel buildup or to re-create natural cycles of fire in an ecosystem.

Fire Beaters

Fire Beaters are probably the hand tool that gets utilized most during a veld fire. It is particularly useful with grassland fires. With fire beaters it is best to work as a team. It is important to work together in a rhythmic action. A well organized and motivated team can extinguish long fire lines with this basic peace of equipment.
