Alumina has a large lattice energy and a melting point as high as 2050 ℃. Correspondingly, the sintering temperature of alumina ceramics is very high (the sintering temperature of pure alumina ceramics is as high as 1650 ~ 1990 ℃), which brings huge energy consumption and equipment loss to the current alumina ceramic production industry. In order to save energy and reduce emissions, improve the economic benefits of producing alumina ceramics, it is particularly important to reduce the sintering temperature of alumina ceramics.


 


At present, low-temperature sintering of alumina ceramics is generally realized in three ways: first, reducing the particle size of alumina particles by chemical or mechanical methods to increase the reaction activity of Al2O3 particles; Secondly, by adopting special sintering methods (such as hot pressing sintering technology, hot isostatic pressing sintering technology, discharge plasma sintering technology, etc.), different oxidation principles are used to improve the process conditions; Thirdly, appropriate additives are added to reduce the reaction temperature.


 


The first method has high production cost, low powder yield, difficult to control the shape and size of particles, and the smaller the particle size, the more serious the particle agglomeration, which has become an unavoidable problem; The second method has high energy consumption, strict requirements on equipment and technology, and low practicability; In contrast, the method of low-temperature sintering of alumina ceramics using additives has become the closest approach to industrialization due to its low cost and strong operability. For example, researchers used cheap materials such as talc, kaolin, calcium carbonate, silicon dioxide and alkaline earth metal oxides as additives to fire qualified 95 porcelain at 1520 ~ 1540 ℃ and successfully put it into actual production.


 


The addition of a series of sintering aids such as talc powder can not only effectively reduce the sintering temperature of alumina ceramics, but also some researchers have found that at the firing temperature of 1330 ℃, when the amount of talc added is 15wt.% Talc not only plays a good melting aid role in the firing process of alumina ceramics, but also reacts with the green body at high temperature to form uniform distribution of original enstatite fine particles, which plays a role of dispersion reinforcement for the porcelain body and contributes to the improvement of mechanical properties of alumina ceramics.


 


According to the research, adding a small amount of talc to Al2O3 ceramics can inhibit the abnormal growth of Al2O3 grains, ensure that the grains are fine, the ceramic structure is dense, and the ceramics have a high finish, which has a good effect. In order to obtain alumina ceramic substrate with good performance, it is of great significance to prepare alumina ceramic suspension slurry containing talc with good fluidity, low viscosity and good dispersion.
