PVP-I(povidone iodine) is a main kind of iodophor drug widely used at present. In its chemical structure, iodine mainly exists in form of triiodide ion, and bound by the hydrogen bond which formed by carbonyl group from two adjacent pyrrole rings on the polymer molecule. And this complex form can exist in both aqueous and non-aqueous media, which greatly increasing the solubility of iodine. It can efficiently kill bacteria, viruses and fungi while has no irritation or damage to skin, mucous membrane and respiratory tract. It can also dehydrate tissues, promote wound dryness, expand blood vessels, promote blood circulation, soften and dissipate induration. As a broad-spectrum and highly effective disinfectant, it is widely used in skin and oral disinfection as well as instrument disinfection in hospital, and can be applied in food industry and aquaculture sterilization as well.
