Proteinase K
Proteinase K is a serine protease with wide cleavage activity. It cleaves the carboxyl peptide bonds of aliphatic and aromatic amino acids. The enzyme was purified to remove RNase and DNase activities. Because of its stability in urea and SDS and its ability to degrade native proteins, proteinase K has a wide range of applications, including preparation of chromosomal DNA for pulsed electrophoresis, Western blotting, and removal of nucleases from DNA and RNA preparation. The general working concentration of proteinase K is 50-100 μg/ml. It is active in a wide range of pH (pH 4-12.5).
