Saccharin sodium
Saccharin sodium, also known as sodium phthaloylsulphonimide, was developed in 1879 and is the earliest artificial non nutritive sweetener. It is soluble in water, and its sweetness in dilute solution is 200~500 times that of sucrose. When the concentration is high, it has a bitter taste. When heated under acidic conditions, the sweet taste disappears, and it can form bitter o-aminosulfonylbenzoic acid. It can be used as brightener, blood circulation measuring agent, penetrant, etc. for nickel chromium electroplating.
