What is Well Logging Cable?

A well logging cable is a cable that is used in the process of well logging, which is the practice of obtaining information about subsurface geological formations by measuring the physical properties of the rock and fluids in a well. The cable is typically made of steel or other strong materials to withstand the stresses of lowering and raising the measuring tools in the well.

 

The well logging cable is attached to a winch or hoist and lowered into the wellbore, along with a measuring tool or probe. As the cable is lowered, the measuring tool collects data about the subsurface formations, such as the electrical, acoustic, or nuclear properties of the rock and fluid. The data is transmitted up the cable to a data acquisition system, where it is recorded and analyzed.
