Its salts are used as a food preservative and benzoic acid is an important precursor for the synthesis of many other organic substances.

Applications |
1) Industrial benzoic acid can be used as plasticizer and organic synthetic raw material such as benzoyl peroxide. Food grade benzoic acid can be prepared by recrystallization. Industrial grade benzoic acid is also an important raw material for the preparation of food additive sodium benzoate. 2) Benzoate, ethyl ester and propyl ester derived from benzoic acid are recognized as effective and economical preservatives and can be used as both cosmetic and food preservatives at low cost. 3) Benzoic acid and its sodium salt can be used as antibacterial agents for latex, toothpaste, jam or other food, and can also be used as mordant for dyeing and color printing. |
