We manufacture heat shrinkable FEP to cover lamps and are able to cover virtually all lamp
configurations, including straight, compact, circline (circular), and tight U-bend styles.
Small and large batches of lamps can be shatterproofed quickly to meet the demands of our
customers, and we pride ourselves on the flexibility of the service offered.
We also supply against scheduled call off orders and will hold a stock of our customer's
shatterproofed lamps. This enables you to offer your customers an excellent level of customer service.
T5, T8, T10 and T12 - UVA, UVC and Triphosphur
Compact U type (Linx, PLL)
Circline
The coating material is FEP and the thickness is compliant with the ‘fragment retention lamp standard’
IEC/BS EN 61549.
FEP is both transparent to UVA and UVC light and totally resistant to it, as well as being temperature
resistant. Therefore, it makes an excellent material for shatterproofing UVA and UVC lamps used in
the food and pharmaceutical industries, where glass free areas are required.
The FEP coating will outlast the specified life span of the lamp, where other inferior plastic coverings
enbrittle or discolour under the effect of the UV radiation. If the lamp suffers damage the glass, etc.
is contained in the shrunk on jacket.
Loss of UVA and UVC light is much less than with other polymer coatings. For our usual shatterproof
lamp coatings, loss of UVA is around 4% and UVC is 11%. We know of no other suitable flexible
coatings that provide less loss of UV.
It is recommended that lamps are changed after the manufacturer's specified working hours as the
output does deteriorate over time.
Due to the unique properties of FEP this coating will not discolour and become brittle due to the
absorption of UV radiation, which is a common problem with lesser quality coatings. The UV
transmission rate remains high at approx. 97% for UVA and approx. 85% for UVC, thereby ensuring you
have maximum performance for the lifetime of the lamp. The coatings are compliant to IEC/BS EN
61549 for ‘fragment retention lamps.’
FEP heat shrinkable sleeves and boots have been developed specifically to enable distributors,
stockists, and large users of lamps to be able to make their lamps shatterproof very easily in their own
premises in small or large quantities. The bespoke process equipment is minimal, and coating can be
applied with virtually no training to unskilled personnel.
This coating can be applied to all configurations of lamps.
The cost of lamps coated in house are lower than lamps purchased coated.
The base lamp can be bought in volume at low prices, and in various sizes & lengths, but normally only
two diameters of FORBEST are necessary, and simply cut to the length of the lamp.
The labour cost of coating lamps with FORBEST is very low as it is a quick, simple & safe process.
Duplicated lamp stocking is avoided.
Lamps do not have to travel to & from lamp coating plants.
Only lamps for immediate delivery or use need to be coated.
FORBEST is light & more compact than lamps & does not take up valuable storage space.
Faster delivery from you to your customer. No waiting for lamps to be coated or supplied. Just coat the
lamps you need while packing for despatch.
If you have been sending lamps out for coating then the delay and cost of the transport is eliminated.
You are not restricted to any manufacturer of choice or specification by the lamp coater. Mixtures of
lamp types can be coated at the same time.
FORBEST has been used for over 10 years for coating UV (insect lamps and sterilisation lamps) and
linear incandescent lamps with no degradation.
The coating process developed by Adtech Polymer is very simple, low cost & safe. It does not involve hot
air ovens, conveyors or hot air guns. However, these can be used to apply the coating if preferred. Lamps
can be identified with your own labels for repeat orders.
