Why is it called a Chicago Screw?
A sex bolt, (also known as a barrel nut, barrel bolt, Chicago screw, post and screw or connector bolt), is a type of fastener (nut) that has a barrel-shaped flange and protruding boss that is internally threaded. It is normally chosen because of its low profile compared to other nuts.
The boss is located inside the tightened component, and the flange provides the bearing surface. The hexagonal socket bolts and matching machine screws are flush with the side of the tightened surface.
Chicago screws are paired fasteners that combine fasteners (nuts) with fasteners (screws). The internal threaded bolt consists of an internal threaded sleeve (nut) and an external threaded screw.
