1.What is PLA? PolylacticAcid (PLA) is a bioplastic derived from renewable
resources like corn starch or sugar cane. Most other plastics, by contrast,
are made from nonrenewable oil or natural gas. In addition, PLAtakes
as much as 65% less energy to produce, making it atwo-fold win for the
environment.
2.Is PLA eco-friendly?
Yes. The huge benefit of PLAis its versatility and the fact that because
it is plant based, it naturally degrades when exposed to theenvironment.
3.Is PLA compostable?
Yes. PLA will degrade in under 6 months in a commercial composting
environment, but will take a bit longer in a home or restaurantcomposting
environment.
4.Can PLA straws be used in hotbeverages?
No. Although all of the components are food safe, for bestperformance,
we recommend using the straws for cold beverages only. High
temperatures could make the material soft and reduce its practical life.
5.How can I tell if my straw is made of PLA?
It is difficult to tell the difference between PLA and a standard plastic
straw by just looking, so we recommend buying TableCraft Products’
PLA straws to be sure that you are only getting eco-friendly PLA and
Paper straws and not an imitation. We are also adding the TableCraft
leaf logo to the straw wrappers so you can assure your customers that
they are getting an eco-friendly alternative to traditionalplastic.
