Lactobionic acid (4-O-β-galactopyranosyl-D-gluconic acid) is a sugar acid. Lactobionic acid is a disaccharide formed from gluconic acid and galactose.Lactobionic acid can be formed by oxidation of lactose.Lactobionic acid can soften and remove dead skin cells, while stimulating the proliferation of hyaluronic acid and collagen,making the skin plump and elastic, and the pores more delicate.
The strong antioxidant properties of lactobionic acid can chelate ferric ions and protect the cell membrane from damage by oxidation. This protects collagen and prevents wrinkles.
